Program Description

Healthy Homes education and workshops are designed for youth and adult audiences so they can understand Healthy Homes principles, become advocates in their family and community, and support the concept of health and housing equity achieved by living in a safe, stable, and healthy home.
The principles of a healthy home are: Keep it DRY, CLEAN, PEST FREE, SAFE, CONTAMINANT FREE, WELL VENTILATED, AND IN GOOD REPAIR.
Issues that directly impact human health are the prevention of LEAD POISONING, CARBON MONOXIDE, HOUSEHOLD FIRES, MOLD, AND WATER CONTAMINATION.
Other aspects of healthy home education are making your home clutter-free and asthma-friendly, conserving water and electricity, and safe household chemical storage to prevent childhood poisoning. Recommendations are provided for exterior safety/use of generators, wood storage, and limiting tick populations adjacent to the home. Educational programs teaching people how to prepare for severe weather and being without electricity are also provided in addition to the topics listed above.
