Provost’s Awards For Excellence In Community Engagement

We would like to recognize individuals, units, and organizations that advance public engagement at the institutional level at UConn. Rooted in the land-grant mission, this award fosters two-way knowledge exchange between the University and communities—locally, nationally, or globally.

One award will be given to UConn community members or partners for undertaking comprehensive, planned efforts that have transformed UConn’s ability to align teaching, research, practice, and values in service of the common good.
Campus CompactRichard Guarasci & Eduardo J. Padrón Awards for Presidential LeadershipThe Richard Guarasci and Eduardo J. Padrón Awards for Presidential Leadership recognize presidents or chancellors from 4-year institutions and community colleges, respectively, who have exemplified a deep and sustained commitment to civic and community engagement throughout their careers. Their leadership drives institutional transformation through comprehensive campus-wide efforts aligned with Campus Compact’s vision of a world in which all of higher education commits to advancing an equitable, accessible, and just democracy, where colleges and universities serve as responsive and transformative agents of change and join as true partners with communities in contributing to our collective flourishing.
Campus CompactExcellence in Civic & Community Engagement Programming AwardThe inaugural Excellence in Student Success Award recognizes APLU member institutions that have implemented innovative, scalable, and sustainable initiatives to improve student outcomes and eliminate barriers to educational attainment. As higher education navigates shifting student needs and workforce expectations, APLU institutions continually adapt their practices to promote student persistence and success. This award highlights instituting replicable, evidence-based approaches to support retention, completion, and long-term student achievement. Building on the Degree Completion Award, this new award recognizes institutions taking comprehensive approaches to supporting student achievement in today’s evolving higher education landscape.
APLUC. Peter Magrath & W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship AwardsSince 2007, the APLU C. Peter Magrath Award for Community Engagement has recognized the outstanding community-university engagement work of public universities nationwide. The Magrath Award winner is chosen from one of four regional winners of the Kellogg Awards, which are presented each fall during the Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC) Annual Conference.  Both the Magrath Award and the Kellogg Awards recognize universities that have enhanced their learning, discovery, and engagement missions by becoming more integrated with their communities.

APLUInnovation & Economic Prosperity Universities AwardsAPLU’s Innovation and Economic Prosperity (IEP) Universities program is the leading certification process recognizing higher education institutions that have demonstrated a sustainable and institutional-level commitment to “economic engagement” or how universities advance 1) Talent and workforce development 2) Innovation, entrepreneurship and tech-based economic development and 3) Place development via public service, community engagement, outreach and extension. Universities that have earned APLU’s IEP University designation qualify for the IEP awards competition for world-class leaders in economic engagement. The awards recognize the significant contributions and achievements of universities in developing innovation and entrepreneurship, talent, and establishing a presence in their region, as well as fostering connections across these areas.
