What Qualifies As Community Engagement?

Community engagement refers to work conducted with and/or for the public. “Public” includes individuals or organizations such as nonprofit organizations, local governments, schools, or other community-based entities. Activities may include research, teaching, or outreach that involve reciprocal exchange with community partners for mutual benefit. Not all research or teaching includes a community engagement component, and community engagement does not include fee-based activities. Examples of community engagement include giving presentations at a public library, tutoring high school students, collaborating with local governments to address community-identified issues.
