Program Description

The National Seaweed Hub is a collaborative partnership of 11 Sea Grant programs and their stakeholders to create and provide responsive, non-advocate and practical resources on the emerging seaweed aquaculture industry in the United States. A comprehensive National Needs Assessment was conducted to identify common challenges and realistic opportunities of 9 stakeholder sectors. Diverse sector work groups were formed to address the identified common challenges to develop achievable work plans and/or strategies. The first National Seaweed Symposium was held bringing all sectors together to discuss common challenges. Work group discussions have led to federally funded research projects and publicly accessible resources including the annually updated State of the States of Seaweed Aquaculture, the National Seaweed Nursery Directory and Seaweed Market Outlet infographic.
