As a baseline year, this report establishes an initial picture of the scope and diversity of community-engaged scholarship at UConn and provides a foundation for future reporting, assessment, and institutional learning

Defining Community Engaged Scholarship
For the purposes of this report, community-engaged scholarship is defined as scholarly activity that:
- Integrates community partners as co-creators of new knowledge or novel ways to interpret and apply information, and/or as co-educators; and/or
- Is intentionally conducted to address or positively impact societal issues.
This definition recognizes a broad range of scholarly contributions, including research, teaching, creative activity, and public scholarship, and emphasizes intentionality, reciprocity, and public impact.
Why This Data Matters
Collecting this information helps make community-engaged scholarship visible across the university and ensures that diverse forms of faculty work are accurately represented in institutional data.
Faculty reporting plays a key role in documenting how scholarship is conducted with communities and in response to societal issues.
Looking Ahead
This first year of reporting establishes a shared starting point for understanding community-engaged scholarship at UConn. Continued faculty participation helps strengthen this collective picture over time.
