Program Description

Support a graduate student to prepare an annotated bibliography on impacts of plastic debris on Long Island Sound animals. The research assistant will review relevant research based on observed or potential impacts from plastic pollution to a variety of phyla and species that could be expected to inhabit Long Island Sound at least temporarily or could be expected to inhabit a similar niche from another geography. The peer-reviewed papers should be reviewed for methodology quality before inclusion in the annotated bibliography. A list of rejected papers should be included as a separate document for reference with a brief description of the reasons for rejection. In addition, as some of these species are managed by different state and federal agencies, white papers and technical reports will be necessary to include in the review as not all agency data enters the peer reviewed literature. This project is to collect a large portion of the current science and management activities looking at plastic pollution impacts categorized by type of impact and biota.
